Sarcoiliac Joint Injections

Sacroiliac Joint Injections

The sacroiliac joint is a thin joint that is responsible for the transfer of load from the upper body to the lower body. Sacroiliac joint pain is caused as a result of the dysfunction of these joints and may present as: pain in the lower back, usually only on one side; hip pain; and/or discomfort with bending over or standing after sitting for long periods. There is usually a lessening of pain when lying down. Sacroiliac Joint Injections are minimally invasive procedures performed under live X-Ray guidance that are used to diagnose and treat pain arising from the joint between the sacrum and the ilium bones of the pelvis.

Sacroiliac Joint Injections deliver low doses of long-lasting corticosteroids and local anesthetics directly to the source of the pain to alleviate discomfort.  These procedures take approximately 5 minutes to perform and may be done under either local anesthetic agents or monitored anesthesia care.
